…and the love journey continues..

It was almost 5pm and the rain began to subside. ‘Rinn, we’re going first! See you at Prof. Chea’s house‘ Vonn said. ‘So you’re leaving me alone here?‘ Rinn was somewhat upset. ‘That can’t be helped! You lost! You gotta buy the winner an ice cream‘ Pat was visibly exited at the prospect of accompanying Vonn alone. It was his chance! ‘I’m sorry! If it’s time for your tuition class, you may go ahead! Don’t bother about the ice cream‘ I interrupted. ‘A promise is a promise! Isn’t it what a man should be saying?‘ Rinn responsed firmly as she accepted to stay back. ‘Alright! See you there, Rinn! V…huh..vireak, good bye, but remember don’t come in the school without permission next time‘ said Vonn as she and Pat took the street on their seperate motocycle.

Rinn took a deep sigh and said ‘Mister! sorry if I’m going to disappoint you! We’re going to the school canteen!‘. But she looked more relieved and gave out a cute grin as if she was happy with something. ‘My pleasure. Thanks!‘ I responsed with a smile as we took a short walk toward the canteen.

‘Those two! They’re always like that. That’s why they score in exams better than me’ Rinn said of Vonn and Pat.
‘Then I won’t keep you for long’
‘It’s alright, I’m going home after this’
‘So you’re not going to the tuition class?’
‘Yes, come to think of it. I can’t believe I’m having ice cream with a stranger while my parents are struggling at home’
That made me feel even more guilty to have kept her. ‘We’re selling Banana Fritters‘ Rinn continued- this time with a smile as if to assure me.

‘Banana fritters! Isn’t it a good business?’ I asked.
‘Yes, that’s why we’re struggling to keep up with the demand. So I help out whenever possible’
‘But your parents want you to put in more efforts in studies, am I not wrong?’
‘You’re not wrong!’

Rinn ordered two cups of ice cream filled with roasted peanuts on top.
‘Neh, Mister! Are you a former student here?’
‘You can tell’
‘And you came here? to see old teachers or to look out for high school girls?’
This girl is pretty good. I thought. ‘What if it is the latter?‘ I returned.
‘Good luck on you! But you won’t find one in me though’
‘Why not?’
‘I already have someone in my mind. You can try that on Vonn!’

I paused a bit and look at Rinn in her eyes. Rinn didn’t avoid eye contact before she dug in the ice cream and said.
‘Neh! If there is a cherry on top of this ice cream, will you eat the cherry first or keep it till last?’
‘I’ll keep it to the end, you?’
‘I eat it right away’
‘Why?’
‘There’re times when you cannot finish the ice cream- thus the cherry’
Rinn sure loved to talk as she continued.
‘Neh! Ain’t you find me weird? I can tell that you were a student here and why you came here, but I couldn’t tell whether you’re a Japanese or Khmer. And I asked for ice cream when it rains and cold’
‘Yes, you’re weird and-’
‘And?’
‘Interesting’

We finished the ice cream and it was just a little bit over 5pm.
‘I guess it’s about time’ I said.
‘I guess so’ Rinn replied as she looked at her watch.
‘If by chance, we meet again, I’ll get you ice cream next time’
‘Sure…and good luck’ she smiled and before long we parted…

A first date that gave lasting impression. If it was a love story, would it be better if the romance blossom at the end? What if it’s not gonna end at all…
next episode: Chance or Purpose! We meet again!

Lolz… Never known “chek chean” is called banana fritters in English… Used to have it almost everyday when I was a kid. As a matter of fact, my paternal grandmother used to sell “chek chean” and “chek ang”. Reminds me of the hard time. Anyway, nice story… Hope you’ll publish it one day…

Yes sure, Pouk Grilled Chicken (PGC) hehehe, tatse quite good, the secret is they used local chicken, marinated with simple ingredients like salt, black pepper, garlic….and of course Ajinomoto(MSG), freshly grill not to blanch first like some others did. And another secret ingredient is brushing liquid or smoking liquid which i don’t know for sure how they made it, cos it is their businesses so they won’t let others know easily,it is caramelized of palm sugar, they brush this liquid from time to time over the chicken while it is grilling on medium low charcoal fire.it will take sometime to get ready, so be patient to have a nice grilled chicken. Come on you guys, let’s get some more works for my villagers…You will never be disappointed.
