La’eark
What the hell does it mean?

[hint 1] it’s a verb used to tell things in a way we do not like

Whenever I speak this word, people think I’m an alien and ask “where are you from?”. Then again, maybe I am indeed an alien. No wait, I’m not exactly an alien. I’m just from Siem Reap.

And you do realize that apart from Angkor Wat and hundreds of other temples, there is one more thing that differentiate Siem Reap from the rest of Cambodia. It’s the way we speak.

You might have heard of it before or you might have never heard of it before. So I thought it might be fun to put this word up for people to guess what does it mean? If you happens to know this word, please be silent for a while. Vireak, alien or not alien. It’s you to decide.

No prize, no free dinner for this though! Unless someone generous to give me a good deal for my fridge. Then I may give you free dinner. But then if guess wrongly….how about a treat?

Yes, I did try to look in KH dictionary. I really can’t take my mind out from your word, La’ eark.

I used to hear it many times, and not sure or don’t know what it means, and sometimes I laughed to the one (alien) who speak it out.

whatever, This is my last guess, I think it must came from Chinese word, “eak eak..(dirty)” and it’s keep changing from eak..eak..leak…la_eak…and La’ eark…

!!!!!100% sure!!!!!, It must be that!!!

Panha said:

I’ve never heard that word in my entire life. But for some strange reason, I think this word has something to do with being “dirty” or “unhygienic” or sth…

Panha said:

Oops… Mr. V already guessed that. Sorry, mate. Didn’t intend to rip off your answer :-)

Mr. V(-this-V-that-V-whatever-whatever) said:

No, Problem PANHA, but the problem is where is the question owner? when will he tell us what is the right 1?

reak said:

dirty is an adjective!

Give us a sentence in Khmer with this verb.

Haha, for some strange reason i actually checked out the word in the dictionary. there’s really no entry “la’eark”, but there’s an entry for “la’earch”. the dictionary notes that in some regions of cambodia people use this word in the sense of “to disgust” or “to dislike” or “to hate”. is that close?

Bunleap said:

La’eark= K’pem= to disgust. Panha I think you are close enough.
