Cambodian Military Service: What it means to girls (and guys)
Posted in Forbidden Thoughts by reak at 10:06 pm | 16 Comments »

So this is it, all Cambodian men aged 18 to 30 are now bounded by the new law to serve military service for a duration of 18 months. Wait wait wait…heard that the new law is still to be approved by the King. Will he or won’t he?

Well, assuming that it will be signed by the king, let’s look at some scenarios. A lot of talks has been concentrating on why, what should be done or what should not be done… enough talk with the guys, actually you may find it equally interesting to think about some impacts of this law on the girls.

  1. theoretically, it will be a bit easier for girls to find jobs,
  2. more girls are expected to be in the work force,
  3. they have 1.5 years to gain more knowledge, skills and work experiences compared to guys. (men will also learn new things as well but mostly military and non-academic skills)

Will Cambodian men be more popular with girls after the military service? Two scenarios:

1. Men will be more popular because:

  • we can be trusted because if we don’t cheat to avoid the service, we are more likely to be sincere and trustable,
  • we will be stronger and more muscular…don’t girls like that?,
  • we will have learnt alot of useful human knowledge and skills,
  • we will more humorous…well maybe.

2. Men will be even less popular because:

  • we will have lost of alot of academic knowledge and skills,
  • we will be more boring because we will talk too much about the military experience,
  • when we come out of the camp, we will have no job, no work experiences and no money,
  • if there are alot people who cheat to avoid the service, we will be considered stupid that we don’t cheat.

Well there are maybe alot more reasons. So what do you think?

In one of my posts earlier, I mentioned that men are less likely to prefer girls who are very skillful and highly educated. But this could change when the military service is in place. My friend has suggested an interesting scenario. He said before entering the service, make sure we get a good and highly educated wife with good job and good financial potential. If we end up having a crap job, at least we have a good wife. We don’t know if we end up less popular, no job and no money, do we?

I dun think this law has that much benifit to gals.Law stated that “men at aged 18 to 30″so men have their choice to join military anytime in this range of age. let’s say men join it at the age of 30 so they still have time to find job, gain experiences.this law is even more benifit to men cuz of this law men have job garantee.if men can’t find any job they can just join the military but it is not the case for gals.poor gals :P

Yeah, one more reason guys won’t be very popular after military service: they may turn gay after spending 18 months with all the other guys surrounding them and no girls in sight…

O i just know that guys easily turn to gay that quick !!!!

You call 18mths quick?

>:) sound you’re a girl…not sure yet whether we have a choice of when to join the service between 18 and 30. And military service can’t be considered a job, can they?

18months is a blink? Well i suppose we need to some girls like you to volunteer in the service as well:

1. to make sure there’s a girl in sight
2. for them to verify whether it’s a really a blink or not

Oh,sorry i didn’t know that military can b considered as job. BUT y can’t it be? I wonder if u’ll get paid for that?if u will y it is not a job?N What will u be called if u join military,”an unemployee” or “a soldier” ? if soldier, isn’t soldier one type of occupation?

It is considered job or not job depending on people’s perception.

The truth is that being soldier, we can’t expect to be higly valued by the society compared to being a doctor a professor or just an ordinary worker.

>:), have your parents every given you pocket money? Does it mean it’s considered a job to get paid by your parents? Don’t think so.

vireak-> no matter how low value it is considered still is it a job. u should just say it is low class job though
panha->pocket money from parents is different from money u get paid by joining military. the one from military force is money u ear urself n one from parents is parents earn it.so it’s different, isn’t it???
heheehehehehe :D

well >:)…if you were a guy, in this situation, what would you say?

>:) said:

if i was a guy i wouldn’t have anything to say since i dun have choice it is law of state. but if possible i would fight for the law review or modification.
I actually dun like this new law neither but i dun like guys to think that it is such a good appotunity for gal while guys need to go for military like u said too.
Oh btw i heard that this law is applied to both gal n guy, is that true?? If it’s true…….. OH MY GOD :( (
