Went back home to Siem Reap this June for what would be best called rainy holiday. Siem Reap is no longer Siem Reap we used to have. It’s very crowd now with people coming from everywhere to try and grab a share of pies. I would prefer the Siem Reap where we could play football on the very quiet street.
High school friends were nowhere to be found although i no most of girls are married. Perhaps, I have saved alot of wedding presents, coz no one has invited me to any old friend weddings. Well, I’m often not in Siem Reap anyway. So it’s difficult for them to find me.
Nothing much to do during holiday. Most of the time (perhaps 90% of the time) stayed home. The rest of the time was spent on reading, playing games and cycling. Yep Often cycled around town, catching up with the latest development and people watching.
Just when I thought that no one would recognize me on bicycle, a voice was heard as i cycled across the road. “Vireak” a girl-voice called out clearly my name. As i turned to the source of the voice, she added “Vireak, remember me?”.
…As i turned to the source of the voice, she added “Vireak, remember me?”.
That voice was coming out from a car getting beside my bicycle along the road. Make no mistake, the voice was familiar. I looked into the car and there she was. That was Sitha, an old friend in high school. We were not close friends but she was a good friend of my then very good friend.
“Of course, I remember you, Sitha.”, I replied through the car window. We exchanged greetings and some “Sai Sabok?”.
It was nice to bump into an old friend. Oh by the way, she was with a man who was apparently her husband. I didn’t have time to ask her coz we were on a busy road. Well I was just guessing. Most probably, I was right coz almost all the high school female friends are married.
